Life off the Grid: Canadian Geographic

Posted on May 22, 2012

The June 2012 issue of Canadian Geographic features a piece from the off-grid project I am working on with Phillip Vannini. In “Life off the grid: An ethnographer and videographer meet the people whose homes produce all the energy they need“, Phillip relates some of our experiences with Don and Maxine: two remarkable off-gridders with heaps of advice to give on heat inertia, labours of love, Peltier junctions, and the Do-It-Yourself ethic. The article is accompanied online by a short video piece I produced on Lasqueti Island, British Columbia – a crash course in the motivations and values of many off-gridders, shared by the vast majority we have since met – and will be available in print next month.
